What we've done

At Two Little Birds Consulting, we help organisations take flight by crafting people-centred strategies that create real impact. Just like our namesake, we're small but mighty, focused, agile, and attuned to the environment around us. Here's a look at some of the projects where we've helped teams to take flight:

People strategy from insight to action

A professional services firm asked us to develop a people strategy. Using the employee lifecycle as a guide, we explored what was working, what wasn’t, and what “great” could look like. We then designed a 3 year roadmap of targeted actions to help them soar toward their ideal future state. We recently worked with the team to review their progress to date, celebrate successes, uncover challenges and create an updated roadmap for the next three years.

Building a sector-wide leadership framework

We worked with a membership organisation to co-design a leadership framework for their members. Through broad yet in-depth consultation, we captured what leadership looks like in their context and created a suite of development offerings for all leadership layers — from fledgling leaders to seasoned high flyers.

Rethinking recognition and rewards

An agency needed a fresh look at how they recognised and rewarded their people. We surveyed staff, met with internal stakeholders, and benchmarked practices across sectors. We produced two reports which summarised the feedback we heard, the research we uncovered and provided clear recommendations for the  senior leadership team to consider and act on.

Career-aligned learning pathways

We partnered with a business unit within a government agency to map out a clear, sustainable learning journey for inducting new staff. After thorough research and engagement, we created learning pathways for all roles and developed detailed session plans and resources for 24 key learning topics.

Engagement insights that matter

A professional services firm wanted to understand their staff engagement results more deeply after a significant drop in engagement results. We ran focus groups and interviews focused on the key topics of culture, flexible working, recognition, and wellbeing. Our recommendations sparked positive changes, and a year later, improvements were evident across the board and validated through a marked improvement in the next engagement survey result.

Career progression and talent strategy

We worked with a consultancy to shape a strategy that supports career growth, succession planning, and talent retention. Through our discovery process including interviews with a cross section of the team and document reviews, we documented the themes we heard and identified future aspirations. Using this information we co-designed a strategy and supporting roadmap with clear actions and an implementation plan.

Induction that inspires

We led the design and delivery of a two-day Leader and Specialist Induction for a Crown entity, managing everything from content development to logistics for over 80 participants — including SLT coordination, speaker management, and event planning. A seamless landing for all involved.

Strategic leadership programme procurement

We supported a large utility provider in finding the right partner to design and deliver their enterprise-wide leadership programme. We took a hands-on approach, developing briefing papers, preparing RFP documentation, and managing a closed tender process. To ensure lasting lift-off, we also helped create a leadership certification framework to encourage continuous learning and personal ownership of development.

Learning and development with purpose

A Crown entity preparing for change needed a comprehensive learning and development plan. Building on earlier work, we provided a detailed view of future capability needs, a practical roadmap, and timing recommendations to help them build capability across the organisation and spread their wings.

HR strategy that delivers

We helped a regulatory agency design an HR strategy aligned with their goal to “develop, attract and retain excellent people.” Through deep discovery and engagement with senior leaders and staff, we identified key priorities and mapped existing initiatives to ensure alignment with their future direction.
